CMP: Strategic PlanningQ1 webinar on Demand LP graphics

This on-demand webinar will help you:
  • Understand rationale for formal SME protocols
  • List best practices for working with SMEs
  • Apply the MindMeld model to get more from SMEs
  • Create guidelines for selecting SMEs

The greatest asset associations have is a large pool of volunteer subject matter experts (SMEs)

This network enables communities of practice to create sophisticated educational products on cutting edge topics at a lower cost.  Education directors are often heard saying that working with member volunteers is like “herding cats” or worse.  This session will examine the reasons for this frustration and ways to use volunteers to their advantage.

Attendees of this webinar will learn tricks on how to get experts to share their tacit knowledge vs explicit knowledge. Techniques will also be covered that staff can use to assist and reward SMEs.

Too often association staff takes member volunteer experts for granted and this webinar will demonstrate how protocols for working with experts can turn what can be a negative experience into a fulfilling experience for all.

About the Guest Speaker

Dr. Jon Aleckson is an educational leader and consultant in association learning technologies and eLearning.  He works with an extensive list of association clients on LMS implementation and development, platform alignment and integration, and online curriculum development, giving him a holistic view of business models, operational practices, and educational approaches in association eLearning.

Dr. Aleckson has been studying this topic and publish the book MindMeld: Micro-collaboration between eLearning Designers and Instructor Expertsto help instructional designers of all types get more from experts.  Doing this starts with having documented protocols to encourage staff to consistently utilize methods to create shared language, encourage formative feedback and most importantly to demonstrate that the project is managed professionally. This respect for the volunteer expert’s time should create project momentum and increase the quality of the final program.

As founder and CEO of Web Courseworks, Dr. Aleckson has helped to establish, maintain, and grow world class online learning programs for adult and K-16 learners. The Web Courseworks team designs and delivers extensive curricula to hundreds of thousands of learners for clients like the American Veterinary Medical Association, Credit Union National Association, America’s Health Insurance Plans, American Academy of Physician Assistants, the Association of Clinical Research Professionals, the American College of Chest Physicians, and numerous other national associations.
